The magellan machine is on youtube

on Wed, 03/02/2011 - 23:55

We just uploaded our first video on youtube. It is still from the first test back in October.

The footage was shot more for fun than with documenting intentions, yet the video shows quite clearly the problems we had with the additional mast for the wind vane. If you look carefully, you will even notice that the mast falls off during the secon launch.

First blood... online!

on Sun, 02/20/2011 - 04:32

A short post to notify the only two remarkable events of this week:

  • The Magellan Machine claimed its first blood tribute! Erl injured himself with a chisel while working on the new hull. Luckily the cut didn't reach any major blood vessel or tendon... yet the doctor had to stitch the wound.
  • On a more positive note, we have finally put the website online. If you can/wish/have time it would be helpful for us to receive some feedback from users who aren't involved in the project. You can use the contact form (the link is in the footer of each page).

Status of the website

on Sat, 11/20/2010 - 00:00

This site is running on Drupal 7, which is an awesome piece of free software. Drupal 7 is still in beta, and many of the modules contributed modules used to give basic functionality to the site are still in beta too.

The last (beta3 - final) version of Drupal has fixed the 5 remaining important security and critical known issues, but in doing so, it has broken a few of the modules essential for the site to function. Luckily, the maintainer of those modules is Aquia (the company of the founder of Drupal) who is using those on their own websites (actually: having those modules working is a basic need for their core business operations). This means a new unbroken version of the modules should be soon available.
