Project
Our goal is to be the first to build an autonomous sailboat to circumnavigate the Earth.
This is a huge goal that will most probably takes a certain number of years and attempts to be achieved. We are not the only ones working on autonomous sailing boats (see the link section), and - at present - nobody has yet succeeded in getting an autonomous sailing boat to even cross the Atlantic.
Yet, if the goal of the team is the circumnavigation of our planet, and we aim to be the first ones to do so, our motivation is learning, not glory.
There are so many faces to the problem of autonomous sailing around the globe (reliability of the boat, energy self-sufficiency, sails and hull design, control and route-plotting algorithms, need to compensate for hardware failures, trade winds and seasonal weather patterns...) that not a single day spent on the project goes without having learnt something new and stimulating.
As Paul Erdős once said: "Problems worthy of attack prove their worth by fighting back". The fight is on.
